Breakfast. The most important meal of the day, we think. That's why we're getting behind the Better Breakfast campaign, and offering you a great prize.
When you wake up you’ve not eaten or drunk anything for around 12 hours... so what do most people do? Grab a distinctly un-nutritious slice of white toast, or worse - skip breakfast altogether. Which is a shame as there’s a lot of evidence to suggest that eating breakfast improves mental and physical performance, and can help control our weight too. Indeed, it’s madness that people spend longer on their external appearance than their internal sustenance in the mornings.
The Better Breakfast campaign
With all this in mind, the Better Breakfast campaign aims to get Britain to wake up to a better, healthier breakfast. The campaign is backed by PhytoTrade Africa, a non-profit trade association that represents producers of the Baobab fruit. Haven’t heard of it? You soon will. The fruit, contained in a hard nut shell, has six times more vitamin C than oranges and twice as much calcium as found in milk, making it the ideal breakfast superfood. The easiest way to add this superfood to your breakfast is in its powdered form; add a spoonful to a smoothie or stir it through your porridge. You can see growing examples of the fruit at the Eden Project as well as try Baobab there in smoothies, jam, and in other dishes.
Other big names lending their support to the campaign include healthy food and drink suppliers such as Love Smoothies, Rachel’s, Ocean Spray, New Zealand Honey Co, TOTAL Greek Yoghurt, Alara, Simply Nectar, Organic Burst, Yozuna, inSpiral, Growers Direct UK, British Lion Eggs, Vogel’s Bread and Rude Health. Finally you can’t enjoy a good breakfast unless you’ve had a really good night’s sleep, which leads us nicely on to our prize…
The prize
The prize is a two-night stay for two people at the Best Western Plus Dean Court Hotel in York. It includes evening meals and, as you’d expect, a better breakfast. This four star hotel has achieved the Breakfast Award from Enjoy England for its high quality and large selection of breakfast dishes. The hotel also has an AA rosette for fine dining. It's right in the heart of the old city walls and in the shadow of York Minster.
This break is valid from 1st November 2012 to 28th February 2013, subject to availability and excluding Bank and Public Holidays.

We’ve had situations in the past where people have old or unused email addresses saved with lovefood. This means that though they’ve been picked as the winner of one of our competitions, we’ve had to give the prize to someone else as they've not got back to us. So please take a second to log in (you need to do this to enter the competition anyway) click My settings at the top, and check that My email address is the one you use regularly.

I just wanted to say thank you VERY much for picking me (and my wife) in this competition, the stay was fantastic, We arrived Friday PM at the hotel and was greeted by very welcoming staff, they parked my car for me and we went to the room, the room was very nice with everything we needed, we had our evening meal in the DCH main restaurant and I must say the food was fantastic, I stay away with work at least once a month and I would say this is one of the best meals I have ever had at a hotel, breakfast next morning was amazing all the food was cooked to order and delicious, the staff were very accommodating and always smiling, Saturdays evening meal was in the "all day" Court (Bar) restaurant, again this meal was amazing, the same quality food cooked to order and tastes fantastic, we were down to breakfast on Sunday morning early and again were greeted by smiling faces that could not do enough to make our stay amazing, the waffles and maple syrup was cooked to perfection and ended our stay, this hotel is very well placed for getting into the city within minutes and I highly recommend the ghost tour :)
I honestly can't recommend this hotel enough if you want a very comfortable stay in York.
