Vintage cheddar cheese burgers recipe

With this burger we are hiding the cheese inside the patty so that it oozes and melts into every mouthful.

Ingredients

  • 1 kg ground beef
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 splash of Worcestershire Sauce
  • 200 g vintage cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 handful lettuce leaves
  • 2 large beef tomatoes, sliced crosswise
  • 2 gherkins thinly sliced
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • 6 burger buns split and toasted
  • 1 cup ketchup and mustard to taste
  • 2.2 lbs ground beef

Step-by-step

  1. Season the ground beef with the salt, pepper and Worcestershire Sauce being sure to really mix the flavourings throughout the meat.
  2. Make 4 - 6 patties and form a well in each. Put about 1 tablespoon of grated cheese into each well and use some of the meat mixture to cover it up.
  3. Fry or cook over a flaming BBQ for about 4 minutes on each side for a medium cooked burger.
  4. Make up your burger stack using the lettuce, onion, tomato and gherkin and add ketchup or mustard to taste.
