Five great comfort food dishes
Brrr, when the weather's a bit nippy, stay warm with these tasty suppers
1. Kevin Dundon's bobotie
Shepherd’s pie is great, but why not treat yourself to the South African equivalent, bobotie. It has a varied heritage – the Dutch brought minced (ground) meat to local cuisine, slaves from Indonesia are thought to have introduced the spices, and the presentation is reminiscent of the shepherd’s pie.
2. Lawrence Dallaglio's Lasagne
Ex-England rugby captain Lawrence Dallaglio's lasagne has been handing down his family for generations. If you’re making spaghetti bolognaise, always make double the amount and freeze the other half. That way you’re 50% of the way there to making a lasagne. Served with a green salad.
3. Chicken curries
We’ve a ‘flock’ of chicken curry recipes on Lovefood, Valentine Warner’s is a one pot meal and included vegetables and potatoes, while Australian chef and author Christine Manfield was shown this recipe while visiting the Stok House in Ladakh, India. If you fancy a touch more heat try Vivek Singh’s jungle curry.
4. Mexican food
You’ve probably got a tried and tested chilli con carne recipe. Our other Mexican faves included Gizi's huevos rancheros, Thomasina's aguachile, and Gregory Smith's chicken dish.
5. Pies
Chicken pie is all well and good, but we’ve a veritable pastry-clad menagerie here on Lovefood. We’ve a recipe for pigeon pie, rabbit pie, steak and ale pie, sausage and apple pie, lamb pie, pork pie, ham and apple pie and fish pie – and that’s a lotta pies.
