We toast the winners of the 2015 Best Breakfast Awards, and find out what you voted your favourite breakfast dish.

It’s National Breakfast Week. Where can you find the best breakfasts in the country, and what do Lovefood readers enjoy the most?

And even more importantly, will you be honouring the week with a fry-up on Sunday? Let us know using the Comments box at the bottom of the page.

2015 Best Breakfast Awards

The 2015 Best Breakfast Awards, decided by a public vote, have been awarded for the UK's best foodie starts to the daty.

The Tavern Company, based in Liverpool, has been named winner of the Best Hot Breakfast category. The runners up were Cumberland House B&B, Gatwick, and Albion Farm Shop in Saddleworth.

Meanwhile the Best Cold Breakfast award was presented to Oliver’s Coffee Bar, Belfast, for its breakfast scones. Just behind were Lancers House, Salisbury for its yoghurt pot, and Farmcafé with Hill Farm, Woodbridge for its Suffolk muffin.

The Tavern Company was also named the Best Restaurant for breakfast, and Albion Farm Shop in Saddleworth took the Best Café accolade. Cumberland House B&B took Best Bed & Breakfast for its full English, and the best hotel was Lancers House for its Eggs Mandeville.

Finally, the Most Unique or Innovative Breakfast Award was received by Bunnychow in London, for its Full English bunny. Not associated with the fluffy kind, a ‘bunny’ is a South African food made by hollowing out a small loaf, then filling the empty space with all sorts of things. In the case of this breakfast item, it’s crammed full of bacon, egg, black pudding and more.

Regional Winners

England
The Tavern Company, Liverpool – Full English

Wales
Lizzy’s Catering Trailer, Cwmbran – Breakfast in a Tray

If you’ve been lucky enough to have breakfast with any of the winners, or think that you know other worthy candidates, share your thoughts in the Comments at the bottom of the page.

Personally, I’d nominate a place called Goodbody’s in Plymouth, which is where I’m from. It’s open 24 hours a day and they make one hell of a breakfast there. In the early hours of New Year’s Day (a visit is more or less a tradition) or after any other long night out, a big plate of eggs, sausages and toast is a godsend.

Lovefood’s favourite breakfast

Earlier in the week, we asked our readers what their favourite breakfast item was. The top five items were:

Porridge 31.2%
Fry-up 14.0%
'Other' 12.1%
Cereal 8.8%
Bacon sandwich 8.0%

An overwhelming proportion of you said that you love a bowl of porridge for breakfast, while 14% found contentment in a classic fry-up. Cereal was backed by nearly a tenth of those polled, while bacon sandwiches found favour with 8% of the vote.

In the ‘Other’ category, we saw a considerable number of votes for poached eggs (with and without toast), yoghurt with fruit, and a few people mentioned that they take it slow in the mornings with a smoothie.

Quite a mix, all in all, but porridge really dominated our poll.
