Interview with Jeannette Jackson, author of The Drop Zone diet

We talk to top diet guru and expert behind Sky's new show `Bigger than.' about how to shed those excess Christmas pounds

Ask any woman which celebrity they would most like to look like and you can bet the likes of Beyoncé, Rihanna, Lady Gaga will appear. ‘Most women would add "it’s all right for them, they’ve got personal trainers, nutritionists and such so it’s easy"' adds nutritionist Jeannette Jackson. So in their new show 'Bigger than...' Sky have done just that, given each participant all of the above to see what would happen.

Jeannette advises on weight loss on the show. ‘Many people think celebs can eat what they want, do what they want, and still look amazing – they can’t. What you soon realise is how hard these celebrities work at looking good.’

The dropzone diet

From Jeannette’s work with real celebrities she developed the Drop Zone diet. She found that many of her celebrity clients were starving themselves before casting calls or a photo shoot, eating nothing during the day, then binging in the evening.

‘So I developed the drop zone diet, which is about minimum calorific content, with maximum nutritional value. The foods that are in there are absolute super foods’ she adds. There’s also a strong emphasis on physical and mental wellbeing. ‘It allows busy people to get organised, there's a shopping list of ingredients you’ll need, and it’s structured around four key soups.’

Will power not included

In her time Jeannette has found that people who want to lose weight half-heartedly ‘try’ diets, and soon give up. ‘With this I’ve said “If you want an end result, I can give it to you, but you’ve got to be dedicated.”’

Jeannette believes many people’s palates are almost dulled these days by too much salt, too much sugar. ‘What often happens with this plan is that people start to readjust to the taste of food again,’ she says.

Keeping the weight off

In many diets, all too often the weight reluctantly comes off in January, only to be put back on by Easter. To tackle this, Jeannette’s package also includes a monthly ‘detox’ plan to help keep things on the straight and narrow; what’s more this is included free with the exclusive Lovefood offer below.

The results can be fantastic, there’s no reliance on any pills, or shakes, but it is an intense diet. As such Jeannette advises consulting your doctor before embarking on any weight loss plan.
