UK's best food market named by loveFOOD

loveFOOD can now reveal the UK’s best food market, as voted by our readers.

We've been on a hunt for the UK's very best food market. We asked you to nominate your favourites which were then whittled down into a shorlist of nine.

That poll has now closed, the votes have been counted and we can now name the UK’s best food market according to users of loveFOOD.

But before we name the champion, there were two other standout competitors that very much deserve a pat on the back.

Third place: Ripley Farmer’s Market

With 20% of the vote, Ripley Farmers’ Market has done extremely well to take bronze, especially considering it’s a much smaller market than those in second and first place. It is a charity, run entirely by volunteers, and its proceeds are passed on to other local charities.

Taking place just once a month and set in the fresh air just north of the beautiful Surrey Hills, it is fantastic to see a community hub like this drawing so much support.

Second place: St George’s Market, Belfast

Set in the centre of Northern Ireland’s capital city, St George’s Market was purpose-built in the late 19th century and hosts the City Food and Craft Market every Saturday, and the Sunday Market.

A well-established heart of the city, more than a century since its construction it still attracts a huge amount of support, taking the second place in our vote with a 29% share.

First place: Crystal Palace Food Market

Edging ahead of St George’s Market, Crystal Palace Food Market took first place with a 32% share of the vote. A community not-for-profit initiative, it is run by volunteers and aims to support small farmers and local food producers.

Stallholders sell a wide range of sustainable produce from cured meats to cheeses, fruit and veg and much more. The market takes place weekly on Saturdays on Haynes Lane in South London.

Very many congratulations to our winner and all the shortlisted markets. And thank you for nominating and voting.
