How an American cakemaker created this incredible, full-size cake for a sci-fi convention.
It's fair to say Amanda Oakleaf and her team at Amanda Oakleaf Cakes in Winthrop, Massachusetts had to use more than the force when they were commissioned to make a lifesize Stormtrooper cake for a science-fiction convention.
It stood at six foot four inches tall, weighed nearly 300lbs and took 10 people two weeks to put together, although the cake elements weren't added until two days before the convention.
Here's how they did it:
After making the body structure (seen in the photo at the top of this page), they used Rice Krispies treats to create the inside of the head.
"Use the fondant!" - the head itself was carefully sculpted out of icing.
More Rice Krispies treats for the legs before they too were covered in fondant icing.
Here's the head and torso ready to be added to the legs.
The cake fed 600 convention attendees - with only the bottom of the head and the arms left for posterity.
