Where is the UK's best food market? UPDATE

Updated on 15 May 2015 | 0 Comments

Here are the markets you've nominated so far as the nation's best.

Farmers’ and food markets are an age-old tradition in the UK, although they have only made a serious comeback in the last 15 years or so as more of us shun the ‘stack ‘em cheap, pile ‘em high’ mentality of the big supermarkets.

They are an essential part of what makes local communities interesting and special, with local delicacies for sale – depending on where you are it could be cheese, pies, seafood or beer – alongside more common fruit and veg.

We think these markets are worth celebrating and so we want to know about your favourites. It could be your local weekly farmers’ market, or a less regular produce market, or even one of the big markets such as Borough Market in London.

What makes them special? What do you get there that you can’t find elsewhere?

Nominations so far

The nomination process has been open for a couple of weeks, thank you to the hundreds of people who've already named their favourite place.

Some of the names regularly cropping up so far are:

Borough Market, London

Crystal Palace Food Market, London

Kirkgate Market, Leeds

Market Hall, Shrewsbury

Stroud Farmers' Market

Altrincham Market

St George's Market, Belfast

If you haven't already, we want you to nominate your favourite market in the box below.  If you like, you can also tell us in the Comments where you’ve nominated and why. We don't have many nominations from Scotland or Wales yet, so make sure your voice is heard!

If you can't see the form below, you can enter your nomination here

Once we’ve collated your nominations, and some of our own from both our team and food experts, we’ll produce a shortlist and open it up to a public vote.

When the voting period is over we will crown the UK’s most-loved food market for 2015!
