Only 22% of Brits would order a rare steak

Fancy yourself as a steak connoisseur? You might be surprised by these findings.

Only a quarter of British carnivores like their steak to be cooked on the rare side, new research from Aldi has revealed.

Aldi’s research found that just 22% of people like to eat their steak rare, while 49% prefer their steak medium. For those of you who are squeamish about a bit of pink, you’re not alone; 26% of Brits like their steak well done, too.

A few meat-eaters enjoy the total opposite, though. The findings show 3% of Brits like their steak to be blue (seared on the outside, completely red throughout).

The most popular type of steak is fillet – loved for its minimal fat and tenderness – with 27% of foodies claiming it’s their steak of choice. This compares to sirloin, 22%, and rib eye, 16%. Just 14% of people said rump steak was their favourite.

But despite a third of the UK dining on steak every fortnight, Aldi’s research found a whopping 87% of people can’t explain the difference between a rump and a rib eye, while 62% of people don't know why the fillet is so prized and more expensive.
