Boxing Day bargains for foodies
We've rounded up some of the best bargains from the January sales for your kitchen.
Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year – what more could you want than football, cold meats and pickles! But, if you’re ready for a break from stuffing your face and supping on Christmas booze, it’s also a big day for the sales. Whether you’re shopping online from the comfort of your own home, or braving the high street, here is my pick of the best bargains for foodies.
Kitsch kitchenware
The House of Fraser winter sale – with up to 50% off across selected departments – started online at midday on Christmas Eve and in-stores nationwide from 8am today. For your kitchen grab various Linea items at half-price including these storage jars (now £7), this Homespun teapot (now £15) and this Cast Iron casserole dish (now £35). Plus, keep an eye out for a set of four Pied a Terre wine glasses (now £20).
Tools of the trade
The Lakeland sale is underway online at and starts in stores from 27th December. Save 50% on this bamboo Pear Chopping Board, now £4.99, 40% on both this Stripes Flask, now £5.99, and this OXO Good Grips® Adjustable Potato Ricer, now £17.99, 35% on this Terracotta Water Carafe, now £12.99 and 28% on this Churn & Chill Ice Cream Maker, now £17.99!
I love the gaudiness of Joseph Joseph kitchenware, but not the price tag. Fortunately there are bargains to be had over the festive period! At Debenhams the whole range has 10% off including this space-saving Joseph Joseph 7 Piece Nest Bowls Plus, now £18 (RRP £20), this Cookbook Stand and these green folding Tri-Scales, both £27 (RRP £30) each.
Technicolour dream knives will also liven up your kitchen and with this quality Taylors Eye Witness of Sheffield set, you’ll have the cutting power to boot. You get a purple chef's knife, pink bread knife, blue carving knife, orange all-purpose knife and a green paring knife. Get the set for £24.99 (RRP £50) less at Collectables.
Bargains for bakers
Starting on Christmas Day itself, the Amazon sale is in full swing so if you’ve been hankering after a quality food processor, treat yourself to the Magimix 3150 Chrome, which is reduced to £145 (RRP £200). It’s ideal for most families with stainless steel Sabatier blades and all the accessories you need, plus an ultra-quiet motor which is guaranteed for 12 years! See what else you can get in the Amazon Boxing Day Offers.
The sale starts today online at Agacookshop.co.uk (in stores from 27th December) with this aga cake baker now £75.99 (RRP £94.99) – a godsend for heavier cakes that need a lot of cooking (cherry, Madeira, coffee and walnut and chocolate cakes). And while you’re there, you can add this fun Lady Aga apron to your basket, was £19.99, sale price £11.99.
Caffeine fix
Bypass the Starbucks and start your mornings with a fresh cup of Joe made by your own hand. If like me, you prefer your coffee Italian style, get a stovetop espresso pot (also called Moka pots) – this Kitchen Craft will do the trick and is now under a tenner at Amazon, as will this one in House of Fraser, half-price at £10.
If you’re spending a bit more, buy this Bialetti model, also reduced at Amazon, complete with the infamous ‘man with the little moustache’ design! And, in the John Lewis Clearance which started online at 5pm on Christmas Eve and will hit stores on Thursday 27th December 2012, pick up this Alessi Espresso Maker.
Luxury for less
Start off your Le Creuset collection (a name synonymous with quality, durable cookware). The Heals sale is still going strong and you can save 20% on the range including the Volcanic Stoneware Pestle and Mortar and matching Volcanic Casserole but compare prices in the Le Creuset sale at Debenhams to make sure you get the best possible price.
Look for Boxing Day clearance deals with up to 50% off at John Lewis. You may not get the man himself in your kitchen but the Jamie Oliver HomeCooker from Philips is the next best thing. Designed with busy cooks in mind, this is basically another pair of hands in the kitchen.
I also love this stunning decorative stainless steel Royal VKB Fruit Bowl, designed in a beautiful water droplet. Never has a clementine looked so chic!
Novelty but nice
If you’ve had your heart set on a new kitchen gadget now is the time to buy. Visit Prezzybox where you can save 15% on their kitchen products. I like this Click ‘N Cook set of slotted spatulas (was £29.95), as well as this Quirky Stem citrus sprayer (was £5.95) which both featured on Channel 4’s Gadget Man.
For all things egg-related, Omlet is your one-stop shop. If you’re a chicken-keeper this Egg Skelter is the best way to store and display your fresh eggs. They were a huge smash when they first came out of a little agricultural engineering business based in Devon but try to get one in the sales while you can.
Christmas leftovers
Hit the supermarkets and pick up all the leftover Christmas bits on the cheap whether it’s reduced to clear meat, cheap hampers or cheese gifts. At Marks & Spencer fill up on Louis Chaurey Champagne for £15 (RRP £30), save a third on smoked salmon and selected meat joints including 2kg gammon joints (now £7.09) and topside beef joints (now £11.18).
You can also snap any post-Christmas clearance booze offers. Right now save a third on Morrison’s own label wines in-store and online until 6th January. Top picks include their Cava Brut for £4.99 (RRP £7.49), their Best Prosecco for £6.66 (RRP £9.99) and for a real bubbly treat, Morrisons Best Champagne Brut NV for £14.99 (RRP £22.99). If you’re stocking up, buy your wine by the case at Morrisonscellar.com too.
All prices and offers are subject to change. Please check with the retailer.
