This suspect sandwich appeared in a 1953 magazine advertisement from American Kraft cheese brand Velveeta – it was suggested that the baked bean, cheese and mayonnaise combination was the perfect picnic food. Velveeta cheese was used to top cold baked beans on a bun, before being garnished with raw onion, pickles and mayonnaise.
