America's oldest operating bakery is now part of the Old Salem Museums and Gardens, but still churns out baked goods including sugar cakes, cookies, muffins, strudels, and all kinds of bread (albeit with limited opening hours). In 1807, Swiss baker Christian Winkler bought the bakery that the Moravian Church built in 1799; the bakery stayed in the family until 1926 and is not only still open today, but uses the original wood-fired brick oven installed all those years ago.
