Serving the St. Albert community since 2013, Jack’s Burger Shack has garnered a loyal following for its hand-cut fries, house-made sauces and freshly baked buns. The joint, which opened a second branch in downtown Edmonton in 2022, serves up some brilliant burger options that customers continue to return for. Fans love the BBQ Crunch, a juicy burger topped with cheese, bacon, barbecue sauce and potato chips, and the Quebecer, a poutine-inspired spin on a burger with fries, gravy, cheese curds and ranch all piled onto a patty.

This popular Oromocto haunt opened its doors in 2018 and quickly garnered a loyal following thanks to its scratch-made burgers and charming hospitality. The menu is small but mighty, lined with dishes that locals can’t get enough of. Mighty burgers that are almost too big to eat are the order of the day at Johnny Mae’s, a thriving food truck currently located at Landwash Brewery in Mount Pearl. The joint has a reputation for its seriously messy patties, piled high with mountains of toppings and innovative flavours. Ask anyone in Yellowknife and they’ll tell you that this brewhouse serves up some of the best burgers in the city. It’s the Shack Burger that customers keep coming back for – a perfectly prepared smashed chuck beef patty finished with tomato, lettuce, dill pickles and garlic aioli. It’s worth paying for the extra toppings, too, from creamy peanut butter to smoky Cheddar. With a menu stacked with mac ’n’ cheese, milkshakes and hefty burgers, Krave is fast food at its finest. The joint, which boasts a location in Dartmouth and another in Halifax, is famous for its meaty meals. Regulars say you can’t beat the Bacon & Blue, loaded with creamy blue cheese, crispy bacon, sautéed mushrooms, Dijon mustard and garlic mayonnaise. The Jerk Chicken Burger, with grilled pineapple, banana peppers, red onion and jerk seasoned mayonnaise, is well worth sampling, too.
A convenience store isn’t perhaps where you’d expect to find brilliant burgers, but that just adds to the charm of Hunter’s Market. This laid-back spot offers some of the best takeout options in Iqaluit, and locals say you can’t fault the burgers. Go classic with a hamburger or cheeseburger, or try the Hot Hamburger Sandwich, which comes smothered with rich gravy. The souvlaki platters, with a choice of grilled chicken, pork, beef or donair, come highly rated, too.
Consistently rated one of the best burger spots in Canada, Olympus Burger serves up what they describe as ‘fresh gourmet burgers with an ancient Greek twist’. The spot opened its doors in 2013 and offers flavour-packed patties, each named after Greek gods. Favourites include the Zeus (a beef patty with bacon, caramelized onions, mushrooms, Cheddar, house-made barbecue sauce and salad), the Athena (a lamb-based mix with roasted peppers, feta and salad) and the Demeter (a black bean burger with Swiss cheese, salad and caramelized onions). There’s also a secret menu you can order from, visible only on the website.
Complete with a giant red and yellow sign, you can spot this old-school joint from a mile away. Deluxe Hamburgers, home to retro booths and an illuminated menu above the counter, has been slinging patties since 1960 and continues to impress with its friendly hospitality and classic burgers. You can’t go wrong with the humble hamburger or melty cheeseburger, both served with French fries, barbecue sauce and coleslaw.
No burger brand in Toronto comes as highly rated as this fast food gem, which is famed for its stacked cheeseburgers and thick-cut, beef tallow fries. Every menu item is perfectly prepared, with the juicy patties served smashed, with crispy edges and melty cheese draped over. The signature Cabano Burger comes complete with two patties topped with cheese, shredded lettuce, sliced onion, fried jalapeños and house burger sauce. The fried chicken sandwiches and spiced cheese fries are also said to be incredible.
Diving into a heavily stacked patty from this rustic joint is a messy affair, but it’s well worth conquering for one of the juiciest, most flavourful options in PEI. Backwoods Burger, which boasts four locations, serves up 10 impressive options, most of which come with a choice of a single, double or triple patty. The Return of The Mac sees the beef topped with house-made mac ’n’ cheese, onion straws, bacon and lettuce, all sandwiched inside a toasted bun. Fans say it’s worth ordering the clam-piled poutine, too.
Messy poutine, seafood platters, spicy wings and enormous burgers keep regulars raving about this Morell joint. The team is friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and the food is exceptional. There are multiple menu favourites, though many say you can’t beat the bacon cheeseburger, smothered with ‘the works’ (lettuce, tomato, pickles, fried onions, mustard, mayonnaise and ketchup). Look out for the regularly changing specials, too.
A fairly new joint on the block, this burger dive quickly garnered a loyal following for its smash burgers, saucy poutine and innovative hot dogs. Set up in 2021 by Simon Jodoin Bouchard and his partner, the space is inspired by fast foods from America's southern states, so expect the portions to be big, messy and downright delicious. Chez Simon Cantine Urbaine now boasts multiple locations across Montreal, with the Bacon + Bacon Burger (double patty with Cheddar, dill pickles, lettuce, diced onion and house sauce) a firm fan favourite.
Proving burgers can be more than just beef and bun, La Belle et La Boeuf is a Quebec-based restaurant chain specializing in innovative flavours and toppings. The group is known for its over-the-top branding and theatrical décor, while the burger offerings are equally extreme. Highlights include the Philly (beef patty, Philly steak, caramelized onions, sautéed mushrooms, roasted tomatoes and cheese sauce) and the Super Pac Mac: a beef patty, Cheddar, bacon, mac ’n’ cheese, caramelized onions, cheese sauce, mayo and onion are sandwiched between two fried mac ’n’ cheese–shaped buns.
Transforming the Saskatoon burger scene since 2022, Goblin’s Grill offers fast food favourites done exceptionally well. The staff are friendly, and the space is decked out with fun gallery walls and goblin statues, but it’s the food that’s the real star of the show. The Rink Burger, piled with ketchup, mustard, house pickles, grilled onions, lettuce and tomato, is well worth seeking out, as is the War Pig, a meaty combination of bacon three ways, fried onions and salad.
You’ll find bison burgers making an appearance on most menus across Yukon, but Dirty Northern’s offering comes especially highly rated. The neighbourhood pub serves an irresistibly delicious bison patty, finished with aged Cheddar, tomato, garlic aioli, arugula and balsamic onion jam. Served with house fries, it’s hard to beat. The spot, known for its live music nights, dishes up an equally tasty wild Alaskan salmon burger, topped with wasabi mayonnaise, avocado and salad.
