A Lancashire-based freelance writer since 2006, Martin Pilkington previously worked for 20 years in export sales which was an excellent way to meet interesting people around the globe and eat lunch with them. Deeply in love with good food for many years thanks to a combination of time living in France, the gift of an Elizabeth David book when first married, world travel and the then Village Restaurant in Ramsbottom, he now writes about the subject, particularly traditional British foods. He also contributes to boating magazines among others and has written on wines and spirits for print and online outlets. His wife and teenage son are both keen eaters and critics of his cooking. Martin blogs as The Northern Eco and The Austerity Cook.
